NOTICE: We have just a small quantity of these sitars available in our first shipment for 2021, expected by the end of January or early February. To reserve one and receive this in February, place your order now.
The Sursargam No. 2 is a "half decoration," traditional Karaj Pancham / Ravi Shankar style sitar. It is well-crafted and intended for serious aspiring students who are looking for a quality instrument they can grow with as they begin learning sitar.
We have these in our inventory in the U.S., and they are each set up in our Urbana, IL shop before shipping. This model has 7 main strings and 13 taraf/sympathetic strings. The finish is a warm mahogany / brown two tone and the carving and penwork are nicely done. The tone and action of this sitar are both very nice. This instrument is well done and a great value. It is sold with a soft case, but for most, we would recommend strongly considering the addition of a hard case for $100 ($300 value) as an insurance policy. These are definitely fragile!
Includes: - FREE SHIPPING within continental U.S. from our Urbana, IL location - Padded Soft Case ($69 value) - One Extra String Set - Mirzrabs (for plucking strings) - Professional Set-Up / Service (available ONLY because we have our products on hand and do not distribute via wholesale / drop shipping companies...)
Optional Add-On's: - Upgrade to Hard Case (add $100 / $300 value) - Additional string sets & Mizrabs (discounted w/ purchase) - Sitar Pickup (Add $150)
- Overall Dimensions: ~49 x 14 x 12 inches - Weight: 7.5 lbs. - Main Strings: 7 - Taraf/Sympathetic Strings: 13 - Color: Warm Mahogany / Brown - Finish: Poly

While much of India is rapidly advancing, the Indian instrument manufacturing process remains very old school. From touch ups to tuning, much of what we do at Old Delhi Music is add a layer of quality control to an otherwise non-standardized production process.
We wrote THIS ARTICLE to ensure customers understand and might appreciate this vintage production style, the unique products we carry, and how we're working to ensure genuine quality, despite the odds. It's a quick read, and definitely worthwhile for anyone considering the purchase of a traditional Indian instrument.
