Different woods, construction methods, and design result in a distinct sound and feel of play, unique to Kolkata harmoniums. It also elevates their prices substantially above the prices you'll find for simple Delhi style harmoniums. To be clear, we are not claiming Kolkata harmoniums sound "better" or "worse," but rather that they are distinct, and if it's the sound you are wanting, we want to get you a good instrument in that style. Alternatively, if you want a good Delhi style harmonium, we have those available, as well.
The scale changing function is a feature almost exclusively used on Kolkata harmoniums. This function allows a player to slide their keyboard into different positions and allow for easy transposing without changing your chord position. We stock Kolkata models with and without the scale changing function.
