OUR TUNING PROCESS:

Our standard harmonium tuning process begins at our shop in India and ends at our U.S. location where a member of our staff - all highly trained and deeply experienced musicians - will finalize the set-up and tuning on every harmonium we sell. You won't find a more thorough refinement process anywhere.

BHAVA HARMONIUM TUNING OPTIONS:

Concert Pitch (A440 tuning) - FREE: This is the best choice for most musicians, students, and those who play their instrument with others. A440 hz is the tuning standard for Western Instruments - piano, guitar, etc. Some refer to this as “Concert Pitch A440”. For this service, our expert musicians in the US will tune the instrument to correspond with the Concert Pitch standard.

Cosmic Pitch (A432 Tuning) - Add $100/Non-returnable: For most customers, this service is neither practical nor recommended, but for those who are experimenting in this direction, we do offer the service on select models from our store. With this service, all reeds are drastically retuned nearly a quarter tone below standard Concert Pitch to match a middle A resonating at exactly 432 hz. While this service will not void any warranty with our store, it is not reversible. Therefore, any harmoniums or shruti boxes tuned to A432 will not be eligible for return or exchange.

An A432 hz. referenced instrument will sound very out of tune when played alongside any traditionally tuned instrument. This means if you are taking a harmonium course, you will not be able to play this instrument alongside your instructor or classmates. Similarly, if you are using this instrument in a recording or performing context, you will not be able to use this unless every other instrument is also tuned to this pitch reference.

While much of India is rapidly advancing, the Indian instrument manufacturing process remains very old school. From touch ups to tuning, much of what we do at Old Delhi Music is add a layer of quality control to an otherwise non-standardized production process.

We wrote THIS ARTICLE to ensure customers understand and might appreciate this vintage production style, the unique products we carry, and how we're working to ensure genuine quality, despite the odds. It's a quick read, and definitely worthwhile for anyone considering the purchase of a traditional Indian instrument.

Thank you,
Old Delhi Music

A true work of art.

In my personal opinion these Bhava harmoniums are in a class by themselves. They are truly are work of art.

I have owned 2 Binas and a Paul 3/9 scale changer and I find these far superior to any of them.

I currently own 2 of them. I have had a Teak Studio for about a year and just purchased this Cedar Studio.

The instruments itself is so nicely crafted its hard to tell if it is a musical instrument masquerading as a high-end piece of furniture or a high-end piece of furniture in the shape of a harmonium. Old Delhi's attention to detail is very appreciated. These harmoniums consistently turn heads when I bring them to a public kirtana.

The instrument plays like a dream. The keys are like soft like butter and yet simultaneously very responsive. The air tightness is remarkable and the sustain is far longer than other harmoniums I’ve played. Additionally the tonality of the notes is exceptionally clear and the chording rich and full. The instrument has a very warm sound and yet when the Jali is opened then it not only become louder but noticeable brightens up. So it’s like having a real time choice between a warm sound and a bright sound in one instrument.

Finally, I appreciate that the company is based in America, and I appreciate Kodie very much. He has been very generous with his time helping me get just the right instrument.

In the past, as well, on the few times that I have need help or advise with the instruments both Nick and Kodie have been very helpful. Also, knowing that I can ship it back to them for repairs or adjustments, should I need to, is comforting. To me it is really important to have a reliable company to support the unit throughout it’s life.

In closing, I would totally recommend purchasing either of the studio models I own from Old Delhi.

I love my new harmonium! Nic put extra time in to making sure I was happy with my purchase. The sound of this cedar box is incredible and the craftsmanship is of high quality.

I highly recommend buying from Old Delhi Music. This is our 5th instrument thru this company.

So impressed!

I got this in 432. It is my first harmonium. Everyone who plays it says it is the best harmonium they ever heard or played. It has a wonderful warm sound. It is loud but not overbearing and seems to have a warm tone. I could not be happier with my purchase.
